If men suffer from Chlamydia and Mycoplasma, is he likely to get prostatitis?

As we all know, chlamydia and mycoplasma (including mycoplasma hominis, mycoplasma gentialium and ureaplasma urealyticum) commonly infect the urethra and cause NGU (nongonococcal urethritis). However some people do not know that they can also cause prostatitis.

Sexual transmitted diseases, as we know as STDs, refers to the diseases which can transmit between humans by means of human sexual behavior. But not all STDs develop transmitted. While most people have their STDs transmitted by means of sexual behavior, a minority of STDs occur because of other transmission. The pathogens can also transmit through towels, underwears, bathtubs, and closestools. They can also transmit from the eyes or the hand to the genitals. Besides, chlamydia and mycoplasma can transmit from mother to fetus.

After those pathogens infect the urinary tract, and the infections left untreated can cause prostatitis. To treat these infections, doctors may suggest 2 to 3 weeks antibiotics. NGU recurs somewhile, so the drug resistance and cross-infections should be noticed. Condoms are necessary in sexual intercourses. Tools and underwears should be disinfected.
